With its lush gardens, stately town houses, and sprawling plantations, Savannah is the epitome of old Southern style, and who better to give you the grand tour than Paula Deen, the city’s most famous resident and anointed Queen of Southern Cuisine?

In this gorgeous, richly illustrated book, Paula Deen shares a full year of Southern living. Whether it’s time to put out your best china and make a real fuss, or you’re just gathering for some sweet tea on the porch at dusk, Savannah style is about making folks feel welcome in your home. With the help of decorator and stylist Brandon Branch, you’ll learn how to bring a bit of Southern charm into homes from Minnesota to Mississippi. For each season, there are tips on decorating and entertaining. In the spring, you’ll learn how to make the most of your outdoor spaces, spruce up your porch, and make your garden inviting. In the summer, things get more casual with a dock party. Sleeping spaces, including, of course, the sleeping porch, are the focal point of this chapter. In the fall, cooler weather brings a return to more formal entertaining in the dining room, and in the winter, attention returns to the hearth, as Paula and her neighbors put out their best silver and show you how they celebrate the holidays.

Paula loves getting a peek at her neighbors’ parlors, so she’s included photographs of some of Savannah’s grandest homes. From the vast grounds of Lebanon Plantation to the whimsically restored cottages on Tybee Island, you’ll see the unique blend of old-world elegance and laid-back hospitality that charmed Paula the moment she arrived from Albany, Georgia, with nothing but two hundred dollars and a pair of mouths to feed. And she isn’t shy about giving you a window into her own world, either. From her farmhouse kitchen to her luxurious powder room, you’ll see how Paula lives when she’s not in front of the camera.

Packed with advice and nostalgia, Paula Deen’s Savannah Style makes it easy to bring gracious Southern living to homes north and south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Outdoor Rooms: Designs for Porches, Terraces, Decks, Gazebos

Outdoor Rooms: Designs for Porches, Terraces, Decks, Gazebos Review

Outdoor Rooms is a beautiful guide to some of the best terraces, porches, patios, gazebos, sunrooms, and garden rooms created by designers, architects, landscapers, and homeowners. These rooms have become the heart of the home—often literally with exterior fireplaces. In today’s busy world, where leisure time is precious, people want the most out of their homes, and are bringing in comfort to all living spaces—inside and out.

According to the humorous social critic Fran Lebowitz, "the outdoors is what you must pass through to get from your apartment into a taxicab." For homeowners today, the spaces between two forms of shelter are more than incidental atmosphere. Outdoor rooms have become the hearth of the home—often literally with exterior fireplaces. In today's busy world, where leisure time is precious, people want the most out of their homes, and are bringing comfort to all living spaces—inside and out.

Big Ranch, Big City Cookbook: Recipes from Lambert's Texas Kitchens

Big Ranch, Big City Cookbook: Recipes from Lambert's Texas Kitchens Review

The Big Ranch, Big City Cookbook is a proudly Texan collection of more than 100 recipes from chef Louis Lambert’s popular restaurants. The signature cooking style is unapologetically refined but not fussy, impeccable but with a hearty, rustic flair—what he calls “elevated ranch cuisine.” Each dish showcases Lou’s classical French training and sure-handed facility for combining crowd-pleasing, soul-satisfying flavors.

If you’re serving up a down-home feast fit for a cattle rancher’s table, you’ll want to try the Achiote-Seared Chickpeas, Spicy Oak-Smoked Chorizo, Wood-Roasted Chicken with Mexican Chocolate Chile Rub, Hot Smoked Pecan-Cured Salmon, Crispy Wild Boar Ribs with Fresh Plum Barbecue Sauce, and Fried Green Tomatoes with Crab Rémoulade.

If urban bistro classics are more your style, you won’t want to miss the Brandied Chicken Liver Terrine with Caramelized Onions, Foie Gras Mousseline, Coriander Roasted Leg of Lamb, Panfried Pork Cutlet with Parsley-Caper Butter Sauce, Sabine Braised Duck with Wild Mushrooms and Port, and Roasted Beet Salad with Shaved Fennel and Candied Shallot Vinaigrette.

The Big Ranch, Big City Cookbook is a lot like the great state of Texas itself—if you don’t already call it home, you’ll want to return again and again.

Ten portfolio kitchens will be laced between the chapters, and the book will conclude with an extensive source list. What Einstein Told His Cook 2: The Sequel: Further Adventures in Kitchen Science

What Einstein Told His Cook 2: The Sequel: Further Adventures in Kitchen Science Review

The scientist in the kitchen tells us more about what makes our foods tick.

This sequel to the best-selling What Einstein Told His Cook continues Bob Wolke's investigations into the science behind our foods—from the farm or factory to the market, and through the kitchen to the table. In response to ongoing questions from the readers of his nationally syndicated Washington Post column, "Food 101," Wolke continues to debunk misconceptions with reliable, commonsense answers. He has also added a new feature for curious cooks and budding scientists, "Sidebar Science," which details the chemical processes that underlie food and cooking. In the same plain language that made the first book a hit with both techies and foodies, Wolke combines the authority, clarity, and wit of a renowned research scientist, writer, and teacher. All those who cook, or for that matter go to the market and eat, will become wiser consumers, better cooks, and happier gastronomes for understanding their food. 20 illustrations.

Hell's Kitchen Flea Market: Images of New York's Famous Outdoor Market

Hell's Kitchen Flea Market: Images of New York's Famous Outdoor Market Review

Since the 1970's, a flea market has existed in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, at West 39th Street. It is home to oddities and curiosities from around the world, brought to this place by the myriad of New Yorkers and visitors who have come and gone from literally everywhere. Over the years, many celebrities have walked the market to pass the time and to find unusual keepsakes to add to their unique finds. While no celebrities were spotted on our recent visit (October, 2010), the variety and strangeness of the place was certainly up to expectations! Following are photographs and digital enhancements of items and scenes from New York City's flea market at Hell's Kitchen. While most of the images retain their original or embellished colors, old fashioned black and white photography was also used to highlight the contrast in light, texture and form where advantageous. All of these images are available in limited edition prints for purchase at the authors' gallery - West Shore Gallery in Wormleysburg, Pennsylvania. Please see http://www.westshoregallery.com for more information.
